Showing visitors and clients that you get them, appreciate them and are able to help them.
I’m responsible for marketing in the broadest sense.
My favorite definition of marketing is:
"Knowing who your ideal client (also called buyer persona) is. And making sure that someone who sounds like your ideal client, and has a goal and a deadline, will get to know, like and trust you. "
To make that happen, you’ll need to show someone like that that you understand where this person is now and where they want to go, that you have the right expertise to make that happen, and that it’s going to be fun to work with you.
In practical terms, that means that:
I got in touch with Level Level through the WordPress community. Pretty quickly, I resonated with several team members. When the opportunity arose to join the team as a freelancer, and contribute to launching their new website, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. This cooperation worked out really well. Everyone is truly excited about and proud of the result: a website that proves that an accessible website doesn’t need to get in the way of cool designs. And a website that turned out to be an international award winner. Twice.
When the new site was launched, we have been looking at ways to continue our cooperation. Over time, the team had collected quite a list of projects and ideas, therefore joining the team as an employee seemed the most obvious choice. At first, I wasn’t sure whether or not I was ready to give up on the freedom and flexibility I had as a freelancer. I had been self-employed for over fifteen years. In the end, the benefits outweighed the disadvantages. All team members at Level Level have the freedom to plan their hours flexibly. Entrepreneurial thinking is being valued. Coloring outside the lines is being encouraged. So, I feel right at home.
Adventures truly make me happy. All sorts of adventures. My husband and I lived abroad for over 15 years. 3 Years in Canada, and 12 years in Curaçao. Both our kids were born in Curaçao. We love to travel and regularly jump into the car or hop onto an airplane to discover a new area. Additionally, I regularly venture out on my own. To attend an event in my line of work, or just to get some well needed me-time. Additionally, I love the adventure of learning new things. Whether that is learning a new (programming) language, a new online marketing strategy or a different way to bake bread. Lastly, I love the adventure of stretching my comfort zone. I have, for instance, jumped out of a plane, and I have started to host workshops.
Being amongst fun people makes me happy too. People who appreciate each other for who they are, and want what’s best for each other. With whom I can be my fun-loving, occasionally silly and frequently nerdy self. The WordPress community is a group like that. And so is Level Level. You’ll find me at WordCamps, meetups and the WordPress Slack channel regularly. Helping out the international WordPress marketing team, with a microphone in my hand, to share my expertise or just with a cappuccino or a glass of wine and a group of friendly people.
We are up for any challenge!
