From sound engineer to developer at Level Level

  • Learning by doing, from installing a heat pump to writing code.

What did you do before this?

After my studies, I became a sound engineer. I drove around the Netherlands for years and worked with different kinds of artists. This was a beautiful time where I got to know several places where music and noise was being made. From an endless list of youth centers, barns and marquees to the more known festivals and stages. It was a beautiful time and I also got to see some of the world with tours all around Europe. But also in the United States, South Africa and Indonesia.

I already got acquainted with PHP/ CSS / HTML in high school. I then developed my own CMS (Content Management System) with my brother and good friend to maintain our shared Dragonball Z website. 😉

When the ‘sound engineering years’ passed by, I realised that I didn’t want to live my life everyday being in the noise until 4 in the morning. So I picked up web development again. At a WordPress MeetUp I met Jaime (an old employee of Level Level), who tipped me at Level Level. I joined Level Level around 2015 and have always stuck around.

Still at Level Level

Level Level Level is a fun company to work for and a fun team to work in. The assignments are interesting because WordPress is used to complete challenging projects.

What do you do in your spare time?

I have been drinking coffee with close friends every Monday afternoon for over 10 years. We all try to keep this up for as long as possible, given increasingly busy lives with families and work. I also enjoy doing odd jobs in and around the house and try to visit all Feyenoord home matches.

Snowboarding once a year for a week and participating in a Mario Kart Tournament a few times a year is keeping me fit. 😉
